In this new digital age, social media is becoming increasingly important in society, and in some aspects has become the driving force of some cultures. To me, social media is a world; a world that is not bound by geographic boundaries or language barriers. It provides a platform to the voices that reside in this interconnected world of information and creativity. Finally, it is simply a tool, to help us human beings be social beings.

Today, many social connections take place through a variety of social media platforms that are designed to bring together people and communities. We share the big moments in our lives like weddings and first dates with the people that matter to us and want to know about their big moments too. We are more involved in the community and find people who share the same interests as we do, like collecting stamps, or pottery perhaps, and want to connect with them to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. But most importantly, all we want to do was share pictures of cats.

What interests me the most is the impact social media can have in our lives. Everything from a personal misrepresentation of reality to it’s potential to swing elections. These are important conversations that need to be had in the future about social media and it’s effects on society.
